Summer starts early…

The heading doesn’t imply quite the good news you might assume. I mean the Summer break. I reckon quite a few of you are regulars at the Wednesday Bristol Music Club sessions and/or the BeBop Club.

Both are gigs where the organisers take a well-deserved breath over the Summer. At BMC, recently revived under new management (thanks Ollie), that starts early this year: their last gig in the current series is on May 27th, just three weeks away – with Kevin Figes’ You are Here sextet. Then they’ll be on a break, until October I think if they do the same as last year.

The BeBop club aren’t far behind, with their final 25/26 gig next month (June 18th) featuring Andy Hague’s own excellent quintet.

Others will continue, of course – there are dates from Ian Storrer at the Lantern through the summer for example – and there are festivals to go to. But it’ll seem quieter on the jazz front for quite a while this year. So if you value these two clubs, get along to one of their gigs while you can!
